HOW TO MAKE HOT TEA USING AN ELECTRIC KETTLE

By Jocelyn Clayton | December 8, 2019

The perfect addition to a cold, snowy day is a cup of warm tea. The flavor and variety options are endless, including pumpkin, apple, lemon, mint, black, green, and white. Tea bags are often found in the grocery store and often are in boxes that have individual tea bags inside the box. Hot tea is great for anyone who wants a warm drink and is possibly looking for a slight caffeine boost (though non-caffeinated tea is also an option!). Continue reading to learn how to make tea using an electric kettle.

EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

  • 1 tea bag with string attached (any desired variety; my favorites                                                                                     are jasmine citrus and green tea)

  • At least 4 cups of water

  • 1 8oz mug

  • 1 electric kettle for heating water (I’m using this one)

  • Milk/creamer, sugar/honey (optional – I don’t use them, but you                                                                                           can if you want!)

  1. Turn the kettle on, ensuring that it begins to heat up. Once the water has boiled, the kettle should shut off.

  2. Plug in the electric kettle, placing it in on an open area on the counter/table. If you’re using a cordless kettle, also place the kettle on the plugged-in heating element.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Gather all supplies (see “Equipment and Supplies”).

  2. Fill the kettle with at least four cups of water. If the “minimum” requirement of water for your kettle is not met, continue adding water until it is met.

    1. Note: the “minimum” requirement is often shown on the kettle by a line on the inside or outside of the pot.

  3.

  4.

  5. While the water is heating, prepare the tea bag. If the bag is in a package to ensure its freshness, open the bag. After the bag is loosed from its package, uncoil the string from around the bag.
  6. Place the bag inside the mug, making sure to keep the string and paper tag                                                                    outside the mug.

  7. After the kettle has shut off, pour water into the mug so that at least the tea                                                                  bag is covered and until you’ve reached the desired amount of liquid or                                                                           until the mug is full. Leave room for milk/cream/sugar if desired.

    1. Note: the water will be HOT. Please be careful to not splash it or overfill                                                                   the mug.

  8. Let the tea bag steep/sit in the mug for 3 to 5 minutes with the hot water.

  9. Take the tea bag out of the mug and throw it away. If desired, you may now stir in the milk/cream/sugar.

  10. Your tea is now ready to enjoy. Please be careful as the tea/mug could still be very hot. Wait for it to continue cooling off as needed.
